The story of Eliot.
Amazing video… words fail me… just watch.

This weekend I traveled to the Elbert Christian Church in Elbert, Colorado to teach High School Sunday School and to be a part of their Missions Fair.
I had the privilege of staying with Dana and Jan Kable in their beautiful house a few miles outside of Elbert. Dana and Jan have traveled throughout the United States, and have some amazing stories.
After a good night’s rest, I followed Dana to the Elbert Christian Church. I then taught the High School Sunday School a lesson from Psalm 18. I had a lot of fun, and the students seemed to also. If any of those students read this… “staples” - if you don’t get it, don’t worry, inside joke.
Sunday School finished and then 10am worship began. Elbert Christian Church has 4 worship teams, each with a different style - from contemporary to bluegrass, showcasing the talented musicians that attend. The theme of the day was: TEAM. Many of the church members were wearing jerseys of their favorite sport team, and the point was that we are all on God’s team. Roger Miller, the minister, spoke from Daniel, emphasizing the way Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego and Daniel worked as a team, together, and how they were on God’s team.
At the end of the service, the Church worked together to move the chairs in the sanctuary to make room for the Mission Fair tables. With that finished we were treated to a potluck dinner modeled after a tailgating party. Hot dogs, nachos and beans -oh my!
With our hunger satiated, we all moved upstairs for the Missions Fair. Several ministries took part, including Summit Christian College (me), Camp Como, Fellowship of Christian Cowboys, along with others I don’t recall. The vast majority of the ministries in attendance there were from the Elbert Christian Church itself. As I wandered the sanctuary, I was blown away by how many of the congregants of ECC used their talents to further the ministry of the Church. God is at work.
Wherever you are, God can use you…
With the Missions Fair over, I packed the display and readied for the trip back to Scottsbluff. As I left Elbert, I thanked God for the work he is doing in Elbert, and the encouragement it gave.
A big thank you goes out to everyone at Elbert Christian Church, especially to the Kable’s for their hospitality, and for Roger Miller for inviting me down.

Isaiah
Today’s reading:
Genesis 13-14
Psalm 17
Matthew 9
Courage. In Matthew 9 Jesus tells several people to “have courage,” or “take heart”. To the paralytic he says, “Take heart, your sins are forgiven!” To the woman who has had a bleeding issue for 12 years, “Take heart daughter, your faith has made you well!”
How well does this flow from yesterday… Your faith has made you well… so take heart! If we have faith in Jesus, we should be courageous… in fact in John 16:33, he says, “…take heart, for I have overcome the world!“
Has your faith made you courageous today?
Are you taking heart in the fact that Jesus has overcome the world?
Have faith, and take heart…
In Christ,
Isaiah
Today’s reading:
Genesis 11-12
Psalm 14-16
Matthew 8
Faith. As I read through the passages above, I saw a theme of faith throughout the reading. In Genesis, Abram’s faith that God will make him a great nation, so he drops everything and follows God to a land unknown. Then we see Abram’s lack of faith, when he doesn’t believe that God will protect him from the Egyptians, who he thinks will kill him because his wife is beautiful.
In Matthew we see the faith of the leper and the Centurion, both believing that Jesus can heal, without a doubt. Which then contrasts to the disciples fear and lack of faith on the stormy sea…
In each of these instances we can see faith, the abundance of some, and the lack in others…
The amazing thing is that those who lacked in these passages were full of faith at other times… but when times were tough and they were afraid their faith failed them.
Which one will you be today?
In Christ,
Isaiah
2009…
A new year…
A clean slate…
Resolutions made, but will they be kept?
Its all up to us… or is it?
I love the idea of a new start, a clean slate. Every year we are able to begin anew, to try to follow those resolutions we make. Millions are spent on diet plans, Total Gyms (… Chuck Norris approves…) and other things we think will help us to change, to be different than last year.
There is only One who can truly help us change…
Look to the one who can give us a clean slate… and truly change us.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
16 So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. 17 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. (ESV)
Praising the one who renews us day by day…

1 Peter 2:1-3
1 So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. 2 Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation— 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.(ESV)
Negativity is such an easy snare to fall into… a few careless words and before you know it you’re in a cycle of negative comments that practically becomes self-sustaining. Your negativity fuels another persons, who fuels yours… Its a sick cycle, and hard to stop.
So what can we do to stop it? The first verse here says put it away… the second verse says drink pure spiritual milk, and the third asks if you’ve tasted that the Lord is good…
Put it away
Let go of the negativity… stop complaining right now
Drink Pure Spiritual Milk
Get into the word, study, pray and grow… Do you crave His Word?
Have you tasted that the Lord is good?

Isaiah
We will never be truly happy until what God wants is more important than what we want…
